MakerBot Moves to Massive New Space in Brooklyn
3D printer manufacturer MakerBot has just announced that as of this Friday, they will be moving to their new 50,000 square-foot space in the old Brooklyn Naval Yard. The move comes as a result of $10 million in funding from the Foundry Group and other well-known angel investors including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. As is evident in the video below, the folks at MakerBot definitely need some additional elbow room if they’re going to continue expanding.
Though only a few years old, MakerBot already has an interesting history. Founded in 2009 with $75,000 in seed money from Jake Lodwick, the founder of Vimeo, and Adrian Bowyer, the creator of the RepRap project, MakerBot now ships hundreds of printers a week and is hard at work at creating their third generation 3D printer.
